A turbocharger is actually an air compressor that increases the intake of air by compressing air. It uses the inertia impulse of the exhaust gas discharged by the engine to push the turbine in the turbine chamber, and the turbine drives the coaxial impeller, and the impeller pressurizes the air sent by the air filter pipeline to make it pressurized into the cylinder. When the engine speed increases, the exhaust gas discharge speed and the turbine speed also increase synchronously, the impeller compresses more air into the cylinder, the pressure and density of the air increase can burn more fuel, correspondingly increase the amount of fuel and adjust the speed of the engine, you can increase the output power of the engine.
Troubleshooting Edit Announcement
Turbochargers are important components used to increase engine power and reduce exhaust emissions. Due to improper use, maintenance and maintenance, it is easy to fail, resulting in the engine not working normally. This article introduces some common faults and treatment methods of turbochargers as follows:
Oil leakage
Phenomenon 1: The oil consumption is large, but the exhaust smoke color is normal, and the power is not reduced.
Cause: This situation is generally caused by oil leakage.
Treatment:
1. First of all, check whether the external oil pipe of the engine lubriion system (including the inlet and return pipes of the supercharger) leaks;
2. Check whether the supercharger exhaust gas outlet is organic oil. If organic oil, it can be judged that the sealing ring at one end of the turbine is damaged, and this sealing ring should be replaced.
Phenomenon 2: The oil consumption is large, and the exhaust emits blue smoke, but the power does not decrease.
Cause: Due to oil leakage at the end of the booster pressur, the oil enters the combustion chamber through the engine intake pipe and is burned, there are the following possibilities:
1. The return pipe of the supercharger is not smooth, and the oil accumulates too much at the middle support of the rotor assembly, which flows into the compressor impeller along the rotor axis.
2. After the sealing ring or oil throwing ring near one end of the compressor impeller is damaged, the oil enters the impeller chamber, and then enters the combustion chamber through the tube with the pressurized air in the chamber.
Treatment:
1. Open the outlet of the compressor or the straight pipe (rubber hose) of the engine intake, and see whether the pipe mouth and pipe wall adhere to the oil. If so, please check whether the booster return pipe is unblocked. If it is not smooth, it is caused by excessive oil accumulation at the intermediate support, and the oil return pipe should be dredged and reinstalled.
2. If it is unblocked, it is caused by damage to the sealing ring or oil throwing ring at one end of the impeller, and the supercharger should be disassembled for repair.
Phenomenon 3: The oil consumption is large, the exhaust emits blue smoke or black smoke, and the power decreases.
Cause:
1. The gap between the piston and the cylinder is worn too much, and the oil enters the combustion chamber and burns out.
2. In the process of air being sucked in by the supercharger, the air flow encounters greater resistance. (such as the air filter element is blocked, the intake hose is sucked out or flattened, etc.), the pressure at the air inlet of the compressor is low, causing the oil to leak into the compressor and enter the combustion chamber with the compressed air to burn.
Treatment:
1. Check whether there is oil in the wall of the straight hose of the intake and whether it is flattened, so that the airflow is blocked or the air filter element is blocked.
2. If the pipe mouth and pipe wall are organic oil, the air filter element should be cleaned or replaced.
